Artist of the Week: Flume

I caught this one on time. Flume is a young Australian beatmaker and remixer that will blow up soon, if I read the signs right. The information about him is still scarce and shattered all over the place, as he so far has only published one EP and his Australian label Future Classic is a bit unorganized in the PR department, it seems. But from what I learned, his debut LP is being mastered in London at this very moment and he will support The xx on the Aussie part of their current world tour! So everything is set to explode for him.

Future Classic publishes “sophisticated disco”, as they call it, and Flume is a perfect fit for them, combining light house or hiphop beats with lush vocals and pop structures. Apart from his collaborations with female vocalists like labelmate Anna Lunoe, above, he is best known for his remixes so far. Check out the hilarious party track “HyperParadise” that could very well make it on my summer soundtrack this year.

Flume’s biggest success so far was last years “Sleepless” with Anthony for Cleopatra, the laid back disco title track of his EP. It hit over 100k on soundcloud after being featured on XLR8R. The rest of the EP is great too, so I am really looking forward to his debut album. And with his skills, plus the attention he will get for touring with The xx, you will surely hear from this one again in the future.
